Intermezzo in A major (Andante teneramente), Op. 118, No. 2 is one of the most beloved compositions that Johannes Brahms wrote for solo piano. Completed in 1893 and dedicated to Clara Schumann, the collection is the penultimate composition published during Brahms' lifetime. It is also his penultimate work composed for piano solo. Nathan’s orchestration is scored for 2 Fl, 2 Ob, 2 Cl in A, 2 Bsn, 4 Hns, Hp, and Strings. It is dedicated to his teacher, Jonathan Tunick, who also supervised the work and suggested many elements of the orchestration of one of Brahm’s most tender and favorite melodies.
