Other Luminous Things (Sonatina) is a short sonata for flute and piano. It is a vigorous serenade to the shimmering textures and brilliance of the flute’s silvery timbre and fleeting dexterity. Rhapsodic and heavily designed with exuberant, celebratory evocations, it is nine minutes of irrepressible energy and eclecticism. It bubbles with poetic colorful utterances, twittering, and rapid arpeggios of contrasting stark dissonances with cool, stirring passages. It is aggressive, vivid, dazzling, and effectively convincing.
