Prelude in G minor [5'00"]

$250.00

Prelude in G minor, Op. 23, No. 5, is a piece of music by Sergei Rachmaninoff, completed in 1901. It was included in his Opus 23 set of ten preludes, despite having been written two years earlier than the other nine. Rachmaninoff himself premiered the piece in Moscow in 1903. The Prelude's taut structure is in ternary form, with the “A” being a march, the "B" section introducing a lyrical chordal melody over an extended arpeggiated figure, and the returning “A” march section increases gradually in tempo and dynamics. Its rousing conclusion uses chromatically upward-moving chords following embellished diminished seventh figures. Nathan‘s orchestration is for Woodwinds in 3’s, and supervised was by Disney orchestrator Danny Troob. Scored for 3 Fl (2°=Picc), 2 Ob, E. Hn, 2 Cl, Bs. Cl, 2 Bsn, C’bsn, 4 Hn, 3 Tpt, 3 Tbn, Tuba, Timp, 3 Perc, Hp, and Strings.
