Taëo (pronounced “tay-eh-oh”) is a nonsense word frequently repeated amongst encircling repeated marks within various divisions of beats that are not simultaneously aligned with other groups of singers, so as to create a swirling effect of mixed vowels that surround and engulf the listener in a clouded and ever-changing sound world of mixed open vowels. Scored for SATB, the piece is an aleatoric tapestry of fluttering, delicate timbres, and soft, pleasant but still discordant tonal clusters of color. It is scored acapella.
